Ricardo Mazal, the Last 12 Years: Exhibit at Center for Contemporary Arts
June 15 - September 23, 2018
Ricardo Mazal, the Last 12 Years
Ricardo Mazal explores the work of this extraordinary artist over the past two decades. Mazal’s unique paintings and his use of photography and digital technology to conceive them, demonstrate his research and thinking which trace the grand themes of life, death and spiritual transformation around the globe through diverse and seemingly disparate sources. His paintings, photographs, video installations and publications reflect his unique view of the world we inhibit and humanity’s relationship to its habitat.
Viewers will enter through Mazal’s interactive multi-track video-soundscape of Bhutanese prayer flags where they will be invited to write their own prayers and dreams directly into the moving imagery. This survey will include large-scale paintings, photographs and a video installation spanning from 2003 to 2018.
Born in Mexico City, Ricardo Mazal lives and works in both Santa Fe, New Mexico and New York City. He exhibits internationally with galleries in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Asia. Mazal has had twelve individual museum exhibitions in Mexico and the United States, including four retrospectives of his work at the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Monterrey (2000), Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City (2006), Museo de Arte de Queretaro (2009) and Museo de Arte Abstracto Manuel Felguerez (2010), as well as thematic exhibitions in the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (2006), Museo Nacional de Antropología (2004) and the Museo del Centro Cultural Estación Indianilla (2012 / 2015 / 2017) among others.
