The Turquoise Trail Studio Tour

When visiting New Mexico in the Fall, whether for the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque or the charms of Santa Fe, come explore the talented artists along the Turquoise Trail Studio Tour on scenic Highway 14. Over 35 artists from Cedar Crest, Madrid and Cerrillos will have their studio and gallery doors open for your visit, meet the artists and purchase their art work.

The Turquoise Trail Studio Tour makes its debut in 2021 welcoming guests to a free, self-guided exhibition of artists at work on Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 26. New Mexico’s scenic Highway 14, known historically as the Turquoise Trail, is home to a remarkable collection of original artists who work within an inspiring landscape. The Studio Tour is an exclusive opportunity for visitors to meet these gifted creators on their own turf in their natural habitat and purchase artwork directly from them. Many of the studios will also be open every day during Balloon Fiesta, October 2 through October 10.

A map, available at participating studios and on the official website (https://, enables visitors to easily navigate among the twenty- five locations. In total, thirty-four distinguished artists of diverse media are represented. Each associated studio will display a “Turquoise Trail Studio Tour” sign to welcome guests, from 10 am until 5 pm (or as otherwise noted). The artists will open up their studios to provide an interactive experience, discussing their process some demonstrating their process. Individual artist’s studios hours may vary. Also, some studios will have more than one artist. All studios will be requiring masks.

During the pandemic shutdown, the Turquoise Trail’s artists took the opportunity to rekindle their inspiration, resulting in some of their best new work. Visitors will be gratified to discover that the Studio Tour also features emerging artists who have bravely opened exciting new studios and galleries, despite the challenging economic and social conditions. Come and see for yourself what they have been creating. Painting, sculpture, jewelry, leather craft and pottery, photography and more will all be on display.

The Studio Tour runs along the Turquoise Trail north towards Santa Fe, from Cedar Crest to Madrid and Cerrillos. This portion of the Turquoise Trail is arguably the most beautiful section of this historic trade route from Albuquerque to Santa Fe. Artists and artisans continue to draw inspiration from its rugged natural beauty, as they have for thousands of years.
