Tesuque Pueblo
A 10-mile drive north from Santa Fe takes visitors to the Tesuque Pueblo, located off US 84/285 in the Sangre De Cristo foothills. Established around 1250, Tesuque is one of the oldest pueblos in the Southwest and, with a population of 800, one of the smallest pueblos. Tesuque Pueblo holds fast to its traditional religious beliefs and ceremonies. Throughout the year, the pueblo celebrates with feasts and dances. The public is welcome at the celebrations, but visitors are asked to follow pueblo rules. The pueblo is also home to Camel Rock, a naturally eroded sandstone formation that resembles a camel’s head.

Take I-25 north to the St. Francis exit. St. Francis will become US-84/285. Turn right on County Road 591/County Road 73. Turn right on Arroyo Griego. Bear right on Bishop’s Lodge Road.

San Ildefonso Pueblo
A 23-mile drive north of Santa Fe will take you to San Ildefonso Pueblo, the most visited northern pueblo in New Mexico and a flourishing art community. San Ildefonso is best known to be the home of the late Maria Martinez who along with her husband, Julian, developed black-on-black pottery. Maria’s work can be seen at the Pueblo museum
located near the church. The pueblo is also known for its natural beauty. Located at the base of the beautiful Black Mesa, the Rio Grande meanders through the pueblo, creating a lush habitat along its banks. San Ildefonso is home to the San Ildefonso Pueblo Museum and the San Ildefonso Fishing Lake and picnic area. Permits are available on-site or call 505.455.3549 or 505.455.2273.

Pojoaque Pueblo
Pojoaque lies 15 miles north of Santa Fe on US-64. Within Pojoaque is the Pojoaque Pueblo, encompassing both the past and present. Once in the pueblo, visitors can experience the Poeh Cultural Center which focuses on cultural preservation and revitalization within the Pueblo communities of the northern Rio Grande Valley, emphasizing on the arts and cultures of all pueblo people. Traditional Indian dances are performed on weekends and the largest Indian arts and crafts shop in northern New Mexico is open daily.

Take I-25 north to the St. Francis exit. St. Francis will become US-84/285. Stay on Highway 84/285 for approximately 14 miles. The Tourist Information Center is located on the right side of the highway and is clearly visible from the road. Visitors are encouraged to visit the Tourist Information Center.

Nambe Pueblo
Nambé Pueblo is located 18 miles north of Santa Fe, off US 84/285 and NM-503 at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Established in the 1300s, Nambé was a principal cultural and religious center for the pueblo people.
Local events include traditional cultural dances, authentic Indian arts and crafts sales, and a Fourth of July celebration. The pueblo also offers spectacular recreational sites and opportunities to swim, fish, and camp at the beautiful Nambé Falls. The tour of the pueblo’s buffalo herd gives visitors an experience with the sacred animal. Visitors should familiarize themselves with general pueblo policy in order to remain courteous during their visit.
