5th Annual Madrid Film Festival

5th Annual Madrid Film Festival

Under the Stars at the Historic Oscar Huber Ballpark

Your hosts, impresario Joe West and author Andrew Wice, are back to welcome audiences to the Fifth Annual Madrid Film Festival on Saturday, September 3. Rain or shine, the short films will be shown outside under the stars, for one night only.  Fans are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to the Oscar Huber Ballpark to enjoy the very best short films made in New Mexico this year.  Seating will begin at 6:30 pm, and the program will begin promptly at 7:30 to conclude at 10 pm.

The films will be competing for a variety of honors, including the $500 grand prize Le Palme d’Coaland the Audience Choice Award.

The Madrid ballpark, in addition to being the center of community fun for a century, is of great historical significance.  Built in 1919 and electrified for night games in 1922, it was the very first lighted ballpark west of the Mississippi.  The minor league Madrid Miners were a farm team for the Brooklyn Dodgers, and the field hosted Negro League All-Stars as well as disgraced members of the Black Sox Scandal, playing under assumed names. Amazing facts and eyewitness accounts of Madrid’s history will play over the PA before the program begins, a complimentary promotion of the Madrid Oral History Tour.

Time: 7:30pm - 10:00pm  (Seating begins at 6:30 pm)
