For a pub-style experience, visit the Taphouse in Eldorado, with 10 draft beer choices and one rotating guest tap. While food isn’t on the menu, you can order from nearby restaurants and bring it with you. The space is small but it's packed with personality, along with flat screen TVs and a dart board.

Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway
Why take the fast-paced interstate between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, when you can take an adventure into the past along the Turquoise Trail? With 61.2 miles of back-roads, including Highway 14 and NM-536, the National Scenic Byway passes through colorful and history-rich towns, offering visitors everything from arts and crafts to tours of Old West movie sets and ghost towns.
The trail begins on NM-536 at the summit of the Sandia Mountains, with an amazing view of the state. Here one can ski in the winter, and hike or bike in the summer. Upon descent, visitors take Highway 14 north to Golden, a ghost town named for the gold mining that occurred here during the 1800s. The trail continues on to Madrid, a former coal-mining town transformed into a myriad of shops and galleries offering arts and crafts. Events such as the Christmas celebration and numerous jazz concerts have made Madrid a favorite stopping place along the Turquoise Trail. The next stop is the turquoise and stone mining town of Cerrillos, with the oldest known mine in North America. Cerrillos offers a mining museum, a petting zoo, a trading post and the Cerrillos Station Mercantile Store and Art Gallery. The trail concludes in the historic City of Santa Fe.
Driving Directions
From Santa Fe take I-25 south to Highway 14 and continue to drive south. The stretch of Highway 14 between its intersection with I-40 and its destination in Santa Fe is the Turquoise Trail.
Upper Crust Pizza - Eldorado
Discriminating pizza eaters love this family restaurant, next to the gas station across from Eldorado’s Avenida Grande entrance. Don't be fooled by the location. This is gourmet pizza and includes such regional fare as the New Mex, topped with red chile and chorizo, and the Combo, pairing pepperoni and green chile. The menu also features calzones, sandwiches and salads, along with wine and beer. Live music often serenades diners inside and on the patio, when the weather's right.

Valles Caldera
A momentous volcanic eruption some 1.25 million years ago carved out Valles Caldera, a stunning preserve of nearly 89,000 acres of scenic mountain meadows, wandering streams and wildlife galore. The site is located in Los Alamos County, and it’s worth the drive to explore this glorious preserve, which includes the home of ancestral native peoples as well as a more recent ranching history. Visitors enjoy spectacular hiking, mountain biking, fishing, horseback riding, camping and, in winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
Driving Directions: Head north on Highway 84-285 to Pojoaque and follow signs to Los Alamos and Highway 502, then State Highway 4. Take a right, away from Bandelier National Monument, and follow the highway up and into the Jemez Mountains. Valles Caldera is located 18 miles up Highway 4 from Los Alamos, approximately 1.5 hours driving time from Santa Fe.

Wheelwright Museum Of The American Indian
This unique, not-for-profit museum offers changing exhibitions of contemporary and historic Native American art that emphasize the Southwest. The main gallery exhibitions change twice a year and the smaller galleries feature one-person shows by Native American artists and photographers, or items relating to the main gallery exhibition. The museum and the Case Trading Post museum shop sponsor talks, seminars, meet-the-artist receptions and many other events. Admission and most events are free.
Wildlife West
This 122-acre wildlife refuge park and enhanced zoo, located near Edgewood, showcases plants and animals native to New Mexico. In summer, celebrate Saturday nights with the park’s Wildlife West Chuckwagon, which features a BBQ feast and a live Western music stage show. Open year-round, the park hosts family-fun events.
